Day two of the MTC

We were promised that the Lord was preparing people for us to find and teach.  So whoever you are out there know that we are also preparing to find you. Our purpose as missionaries is: “Your purpose as a full-time missionary is to invite others to come unto Christ by helping them receive the restored gospel through faith in Jesus Christ and His Atonement, repentance, baptism, receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost, and enduring to the end.” We studied the verbs in that statement, invite, come, receive, and help.  Missionaries invite and help. Investigators have to receive and come.  Inviting is a soft gentle invitation without force. When we help we go out of our way to assist in that process. Investigators decide if they want to receive the message.  If we invite someone to come to Christ it means that we are on our way there also.  A person cannot come to where you are if you aren’t going there also.
We had a lot of training in teaching but we had even more in doing.  In fact tomorrow Elder Anthony and I will teach our first person.  They are volunteers that come into the MTC.
We also had a great Tuesday night devotional tonight with Elder and Sister Schwitzer.  He is with the second quorum of seventy.  Sister Schwitzer talked about their experience as mission presidents to Siberia, Russia.  These are the lesson she learned.  1. Angels will help you 2. You will be bathed in the Spirit 3. I can do hard things 4. Follow the revelation you are given. She told some great stories about how she learned each of these principles.
Elder Schwitzer taught us how to teach the commandments but even more important how to live them.  It reminded me of one of my favorite quotes.  President Ezra Taft Benson said, “When obedience ceases to be an irritant and becomes our quest, in that moment God will endow us with power.”

It was interesting how he listed the commandments: Most important love the Lord with all your heart, might, mind, and strengthen and the second is like unto it love your neighbor as yourself. Then the 10 commandments, the beatitudes that taught a higher law than many of the Ten Commandments. Then he listed the command to be baptized.  Commandments he said are the school masters to salvation.  We learn better by doing.  He said many people are calling for the 10 commandments to be removed from our government buildings. If they are written in our hearts they cannot be removed.

It is really cool to run into my old students.  I found three more students today that I have taught.

MTC Day 1

All my missionary children have had a picture taken at this world map showing were they are going.  We couldn't miss this opportunity to do the same.

They have removed the sign in the front that said Mission Training Center because it caused traffic problems but we got our pictures taken in front with the bushes.

Ministerial certificate signed by President Monson.

We will now live daily with these badges.

We are truly missionaries seeing the inside of the MTC.

Last night we were set apart as full time missionaries. We are living the dream of a life time.  Even before we were married we talked about serving a mission together when we retired.  D&C18:28 reminds us,  "And if they desire to take upon them my name with full purpose of heart, they are called to go into all the world to preach my gospel unto every creature."

There are 40 couples in the MTC with us.  We were reminded today that the Lord has entrusted us with a particular assignment.  While we fill this assignment no one else can fill it. We were instructed to seek the revelation that would be given us this week concerning our assignment and what the Lord wanted us to accomplish.  We were promised that as we look after the Lord’s children He will be looking over our children.

I loved the promise we were given by the Lord in the scriptures. Matthew 19:29 And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.

The Lord has prepared individuals for us to teach and share the gospel with.  We need to be willing to share because we don’t know who they are.  So whoever you are get ready we are on our way.  We were given our ministerial certificate.  We not only were given the badge that announces who we are but a certificate signed by Pres. Monson stating that we have the authority to preach the principles of the gospel.

Dave was made the District leader over our group.
