July 4th

Waiting for the bus to go to the ward for a BBQ today.

1 Corinthians 9:19 For though I be free from all men, yet have I made myself servant unto all, that I might gain the more.

Last night at almost 1:00 a.m. in the morning I hear a text come through on my phone.  One of our interns has locked herself out of her room, her roommate is gone for the weekend, and the administrative assistant didn't answer her text.  I woke Elder Anthony up and he got dressed and went over to open her door.  That gets your brain going.  So we didn't get up this morning until 8:30.  We had a very leisurely morning.  It was raining like crazy outside so we were glad to stay home. We had a good breakfast and then we did the craziest thing.  We started reading Corinthians out loud.  After about four chapters we would take a break and then go back.  In reading it we found the verse above and it hit me we have retired.  We are free from the obligations of men at work but we have decided to serve the Lord and in doing so we have made ourselves the servants unto 41 BYU students.  We had two more students get locked out today.  It must have been the holiday.

We went to the ward BBQ this afternoon.  On the way up we shopped around to find a small spatula for brownies.  After four stores we found one.  Elder Anthony was so happy to get his BBQ hamburger for the 4th.  We can't BBQ at the condo.   We came home and went with some of the interns to get a shake. Then home to watched a movie. We watched fireworks up on the room of our building.  They were great.  We took a large tray of O Henry Bar cookies to share with neighbors.  We were so surprised how many people were there.  We shared with about half of them and then we ran out.  The fireworks were great but we really missed our family.  The fourth is always a fun time to be together with the family.  We have enjoyed talking to most of our family the past couple of days.

We have had so much rain. About every other day. For all my Utah friends, check out this lawn next door to us.  I don't think there are any sprinklers in the lawn.  I have never seen one or every seen this lawn water by anything but mother nature.

I love all the flowers that grow in DC.  These are purple wild daisies just on the side of the freeway.

Good Stuff Eatery is known for their shakes.  After the ward BBQ we stopped and got a shake.

  1. The flowers are wonderful. Love all the green. It's pretty dry in Utah already.

  2. Hello Aunt Sherrie! It's been great to catch up with you and your adventures in Washington D.C. Sorry to hear you have been sick. These are some pretty amazing things you are seeing and doing. It's great you're making such a great impact on these students as well. Thanks for your service! I hope you had a wonderful holiday. Love, Sharon

  3. What would it be like to have a lawn that green without having sprinklers? We have sprinklers that go off regularly and my lawn is yellowing anyway. :(
