A great start at the DC Center

One of our students got a picture of half of the class.
We have a mission couple in our mission that is pretty amazing and an inspiration  to us.  They were called to set up a young adult center in the middle of DC.  There is a huge inactive rate of young adults in the area. This is their third mission.  They served in Chili and set one up there.  They have served in India. They were called to DC for a year and to set up this young adult center.  They were called for a year but Pres. Cook asked them to extend and they agreed to stay until he is replaced next July which will make two years.  They have work tireless on this center.  There is a home evening on Monday. Game night on Friday. Our institute class on Wednesday.  Employment specialist on Tuesday and Thursday.  A computer class on Thursday.  They saved an old Church building from being sold to house the center.

Our class has struggled to have any kind of consistency.  We have had as many as eight and as few as 4.  I don't know if each week will be the same but tonight was a great success.  We had 14 in attendance.  It was a good class and we were pretty tight in our room but it was exciting to see everyone there.  One student was a non-member that wants credit for the class.  I hope this isn't just a first week curiosity and that they will come back. Now for the amazing part of the story Elder McKinnley four weeks ago had open heart surgery and had three by passes and chose to stay and keep working to build this center.  He and his wife were at the class tonight.  Someone else had to drive him but he was been working on the center from his hospital bed and from home.   The dedication of this couple is humbling when you see so many people that won't serve when they are serving at personal sacrifice.  I hope I can serve the Lord with such dedication.
